D9D - Disput

Zitat Anfang

We recognise that, even now in the 21st century, a very small number of the world's islands are subject to disputed sovereignty, so, to indicate our policy with regard to these cases, we included the following statement in the IOTA Directory, page 42:
"Islands subject to territorial dispute are listed according to The Times Atlas of the World reference. ***This is not to be read as indicating the IOTA Committee's view as to the legal position on sovereignty***. Where the atlas is unclear, the island is allocated to the country that is perceived to exercise main administrative control."

The 10th (2000 Millennium) Edition and the 12th Edition of the Times Atlas
(2007) (which I have) both show the name Liancourt Rocks. Nowhere do they say that the rocks are either Japanese or Korean although they give the two alternative names Tok-to and Take-shima in the index.

As said before, "where the atlas is unclear, the island is allocated to the country that is perceived to exercise main administrative control." This is the policy we have followed. Korean amateurs have operated from Liancourt Rocks on several occasions in the past with support from their authorities.

This sovereignty dispute is for the two governments to resolve, not for IOTA or for radio amateurs. There are other islands in the world where sovereignty is disputed and any worldwide listing of islands such as IOTA is bound to disappoint one or other side of the dispute.

From this you will see that we will be accepting the current Korean operation subject to the normal rules about QSL cards.

1. Ich will keine Steuern/Tribut mehr an die fremde Königin aus Berlin zahlen.
2. Ich will wieder ein 9S4-Rufzeichen.
